Setting up router

  • 1. Because it comes with battery built-in, the user has to take the battery off from the router and then connect the modem to power.
  • 2. Once you plug-in you can put the battery back in.
  • 3. Now you can connect the DSL cable to back of the router and you LAN cables to connect one end at the back of the router in ports marked with yellow color and another end to devices you need to provide internet access to.
  • 4. At this stage inserting hard disk is optional depending upon user requirement.
  • 5. Now you can power on the router.
  • 6. Once you have connected any computer or laptop to router using LAN cable to provide it internet access, you now need to launch a web browser in device (any web browser like google chrome or Mozilla Firefox would do)
  • 7. Once you have opened browser it should automatically greet you with routers home page, if not then you can type http://routerlogin.net in URL bar and hit enter and it will direct you to routers default home page.
  • Wireless Set-up

  • • To enter into the router to change any of its settings you need to log in to router.
  • • To log in you require username and password of the router. So, once you are on the homepage of router after typing address mentioned in steps above you will see a dialogue box prompting for username and password.
  • • By default, username is “admin” and password is “password” without colons.
  • • Once you logged in now you can head on your way to wireless setting from there to alter the wireless credentials.
  • • To do this router will ask you for current WIFI Network name and password which you can easily find on the back of router printed on a label.
  • • Type in those details and now you can change the Wi-Finame and set a new password for your Wi-Fi.
  • Changing Router’s password

  • • Log in to router
  • • Select Administration then click on set password which will display the set password screen.
  • • Type router’s default password which is old password and then type the new password twice.
  • • Netgear always recommends you to set some security questions in case you forgot your password so that then you can recover it with help of answering those security questions.
  • • Select the enable password recovery check box.
  • • Now you will be prompted to choose security questions and type in their answers which will be saved on router, once done. Click Apply.
  • Formatting HDD

  • There can be a scenario when hard disk got full and you have to delete all the data on it.
  • To do so just follow the easy steps mentioned below:
  • Go in router menu
  • Select Advanced and then click on Storage and then click Advanced Settings.
  • Now click Format Internal Hard Drive Button.
  • ReadySHARE Access

    This feature of router helps users to share contents with other network users. For this, all you have to do is insert a USB storage device into USB port of the router.

    To access your internal HDD or USB on windows system you can use any of the following methods:

  • • Select Start > Run and enter \\readyshare in the dialog box. Click OK.
  • • Open Explorer or Safari and enter \\readyshare in the address bar.
  • • Open My Network Places and enter \\readyshare in the address bar.
  • On Mac systems, do this:

  • 1. Select Go > Connect to Server.
  • 2. Enter smb: //readyshare as the Server Address.
  • 3. Click Connect.
  • Similarly, you can share printer over the network by just connecting printer to router’s USB port using printer USB cable and then all the computers which are connected to same router can share the printer.
